Nothing In 02:29
at the bottom of the bottle I'm your shadow I'm your best friend, I'm your savior won't you just hold me quiet in your arms? nothing in my cold dead body just the shadow cut the cold call, light the candle won't you just find me quiet in your arms? at the bottom of the backyard light the shadow under the ground, find your savior won't you just hold me quiet in your arms?
2.
Bones 06:28
no one is above me, resting in my bones no one is above me, resting in my bones resting in my bones and like a circle in the sky i find you circling inside me till my mother keeps repeating god forgive me for all time for all time no one is above me, resting in my bones and like a circle in the sky i find you circling inside me till my mother keeps repeating god forgive me for all time for all time
3.
Dark Rider 06:06
stop, running, it's done: into your head no trial, start while, the dark, the rider hold me hold me and why you fight to face him silently in your bed not higher just lie here the dark, the rider hold me now ill say don't you wanna be afraid? ill say: i don't know and i won't go - i'll say don't you wanna be afraid? i'll say: "i don't know" and once i find your face i'll cut your throat and throw your body down and roll and in my my mind a shallow hill a quiet trench ill keep you in and as your body finds my skin i'll pull your hands straight out stop, running, it's over: everything's done cold tile, reconcile, the dark: the rider hold me
4.
Plane 05:33
ill start today/ fine i'm ok/ now should i stay? said you wanted this, wanted this - said you wanted this, wanted this i'll take the plane - i should have known, what to say - am i your ghost? not too late... but you wanted this, wanted this - said you wanted this, wanted this see you from the window the found the sun comes down and tells me how alone, alone it feels to take the plane above the ground and now: i know my fear- i am afraid - of everything i've wanted since the time has come i'm rising now the drop below to find the one and all i know is what we are the dark, the dove, the shadow waits for me- i wanna find a way to you but now i shouldn't say so but all my life i've wanted to know just how this world began in the cold it goes on and on, on and on (it goes) one and on, on and on (it goes)
5.
no one's a way down down, down, down no one's a way down down, down, down i've been reaching in your head.. tell me am i strange or are you listening? no one's a way down
6.
I Feel Fine 06:06
in the darkness i feel fine found your body clenched to mine- i know- people and the places you go but all the ones you wanted to stay here- i got you like a shell in my mind in the water i feel fine watch you walking down my spine- ill go in a quiet room i can be myself silent as a dove calling out- "I'm wrong" but i won't go- people and the places you go in the quiet i feel fine found your body clenched to mine- but i won't in the final room i can see myself let go of your soul let your body go but i won't know- people and the places you go
7.
Mirror 07:37
so, are you alone? are you a stone? are you a nightmare? how, something so cold, gripping your soul, is this the door i want to stop- smile, keep me in your mind now all these people are disguised- like a drug- that i take to feel fine and remind myself why I'm alive till the moment subsides following every eye to that place down below but no one goes hey, don't be scared i'm your mirror i'm your mirror and if one day our body should explode, please find the one you love the most- you're asking why we'll never know and if one day you find me in the cold, dig deeply underneath the snow- and asking why we'll never know we'll never know
8.
The Room 05:18
so i'll say: "what you wanna do?" found your face stuck inside the mirror what you wanna say? what you wanna do? found you in my brain stuck inside the room don't you wanna stay? i am in the room found you in the rain underneath the roof so i'll say: "what you wanna do?" found no way, out from in the room don't you wanna stay? i am in the room found you in the rain hiding the room so i'll say: "do you want me to?" called my name, hiding in the room don't you wanna stay? i am in the room don't you wanna stay? i am in the room, i am in the room, i am in the room
9.
Hands Out 05:02
in the backyard pull your hands out from the dark road find your own soul im a soldier pull my hands out from your bad dream I'm your bad dream
10.
Candle 06:00
now you're asking for the door, you hear me on the floor, just let your body down light the candle, now now I'm chasing you away escaping to your grave you're asking for the place you want to stay i want your soul i want your soul i want your soul now nobody gets away confession calls your name and holds you til your safe light the candle i dont wanna let you out- burying me slowly i dont wanna see your face- mirroring my body i dont wanna find out- no one is a way down let me fall asleep right now- let me find a way out i'll say: "don't wait long for my body" i'll say: "don't wait long till my body wants to stay" i want your soul stay- what you want, i'll see you again not quite yet and never again i'll see you again
11.
Setting Sun 05:43
oh, find me in the setting sun oh, find me if nobody comes and flying like a dove- watching when your body runs but no one knows, no one cares in my head, i'm not there i won't shut out, i won't shut out, i won't shut out, i won't shut out oh, find me where nobody goes and flying like a dove- watching when your body runs..

about

On their debut LP "Mirror", Balms submerge their airy, dream rock sound into the depths of the soul, embarking on an internal excavation of the darkest area that exists within us all - the Shadow Self. Through years of sonic exploration, conjuring melodies from meditative, repetitive improvisation, the band manifests songs that break up the standard rock format and reach for a deeper level of musical connection. The result is a journey of self-discovery - 11 songs that reach for a place of sanctuary and healing.
Recorded by Jack Shirley to create the environment - the raw, live-to-tape experience - and mixed with precision by Justin Gerrish, "Mirror" is a nightmarish, yet cathartic, therapeutic space; a genuine and organic offering that narrates a confrontation with the Shadow.

"...moody, guttural yet syrupy opus that plays with the Pink Floyd-coined idea of 'delicate thunder."
- Stereogum

"The San Francisco trio alternates chunky riffs and a plodding rhythm section with dreamy melodies, sudden screams and a voice that coos, "I want your soul." The forbidding effect is something like early Red House Painters' pretty moans set to the downcast punk seething of ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead."
